In defense of dog

With his service dog, Simba, lying quietly at his feet, a deaf Westbury teenager spoke in federal court yesterday of his anger at East Meadow school officials for barring the dog from school and the damage he sees to the animal’s training.
The 2-year-old yellow Labrador retriever is supposed to learn to respond to sounds, John Cave Jr. told U.S. District Court Judge Arthur Spatt. But Simba’s education is suffering because he can’t go to school.

Oh, the tips keep trickling in, long after the woebegone whippet ran away at John F. Kennedy International Airport right after the Westminster Kennel Club dog show.
There even was a supposed sighting a few days ago near a picnic area, and a bunch of searchers rushed into the frigid night to look for her. Before they got there, the dog ran down a path and disappeared.

Tall, dark strangers - not.
This trio of low-riding, economically sized dogs - a Dandie Dinmont terrier named Harry, a Sealyham terrier nicknamed Ben, and a Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen called Fairchild - needs no introduction to dog fanciers. Last year, they were among the biggest-winning show dogs in the nation. And tomorrow and Tuesday at Madison Square Garden, they will be among the hottest contenders at the Westminster Kennel Dog Show, even if much of the general public has never heard of their respective breeds.
