Coat: Short and smooth. Acceptable colors are: Black (a little white is permitted), white with black spots, yellow (may be streaked) with black face, and blue.
Character: Great Danes are affectionate, calm, loyal, and intelligent. They do not bark much, but make great watchdogs.
Temperament: This dog gets along well with children, other dogs, and any household pets. It is usually wary around strangers, but will welcome friends of the family.
Care: During shedding, remove dead hairs with a rubber brush. This dog will always need some place soft to lie down. Proper nutrition and avoidance of excessive exercise is required when this breed is young.
Training: This breed must be trained early to not pull on the leash, because it grows to a very large size.
Activity: This breed needs a great deal of exercise. It needs to run freely off the leash in open countryside.
Description : The Great Dane is the tallest of dog breeds. Great size and well-formed muscled body give them the appearance of strength and dignity. They are known as "friendly giants" and should show no unprovoked aggression. Great Danes make great family pets as they are gentle, loyal and affectionate in nature showing great patience with children. If given plenty of space and exercise they do well in urban surroundings. Considered an indoor animal, Great Danes should not be kenneled.
