Because of their heavy coats they should not be kept in very hot or humid climates. Though large, Bernese Mountain Dogs have sweet characters and are outgoing, affectionate dogs who love children. One should be aware that Bernese Mountain Dogs are one-owner dogs and may find it difficult to adjust to a new owner if introduced after 18 months of age.
